Teresa L. Shanta, CPA

A resident of the Greensburg, Westmoreland County area, Teresa graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting.  Following graduation, she began her accounting career with local public accounting firms in Latrobe and Greensburg, Pennsylvania, including time as a sole proprietor.  These experiences allowed her to develop expertise in financial accounting and taxation relating to corporations, individuals, and trusts.

Teresa spent five years at Sarp & Company,  a public accounting firm in Greenburg as a Senior Accountant, where she gained extensive experience in the management of audits for governments and non-profits.

In March of 2006, Teresa joined the tax department at Kennametal Inc., an international manufacturing company with headquarters located in Latrobe, Pennsylvania.  There she focused on federal and multi-state taxations, including FAS 109 and FIN 48 issues relating to personal property tax, state tax, and sales and use tax.

As a sole practitioner, Teresa continued to develop her professional skills in the preparation of tax returns related to individuals, including the taxation of ministers.  She also provided services to a local bank in the preparation of trust returns.

Teresa joined the firm of Kotzan CPA & Associates, P.C., in July 2009 as a manager, adding her expertise in federal and multi-state taxation, individual and trust taxation, and government and non-profit auditing.

Teresa is an active member of the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA).

In her time away from work, she is a proud mother of three children (Rob, Marsha, and Michelle), as well as grandmother to Kali, Rhys and Gabriella.  Teresa worships at the Hempfield Church of Christ in Greensburg and serves as church treasurer and financial advisor to the board.  When time allows, she enjoys developing her fly fishing skills.
